ABOARD THE EXCELSIOR FLIGHT
The Excelsior Flight, launched from Vandenberg, California, is the 23rd Celestis mission, the 10th to Earth orbit.
Excelsior! is an exclamation representing the exuberance of reaching outward, beyond, to lofty locales – qualities that help to define those on board as well as the goals of the mission.
Excelsior was Marvel creator Stan Lee's famous catchphrase - a Latin word meaning “ever upward.” What began as a clever sign off for Lee's comics became his life motto.
For Excelsior, Celestis returns to the birthplace of the company’s very first missions – Vandenberg Air Force Base (now Vandenberg Space Force Base) on California’s Central Coast. The scenic and historic location overlooking the Pacific is an excellent venue for celebrating lives well lived.
The Excelsior Flight logo is from well-known designer and illustrator Eric Gignac. Eric’s portfolio also includes co-design of NASA Space Shuttle mission patches for the STS 128 and 133 missions.
