Dr. Daniel Guidotti, aged 78, passed away on November 11, 2024. He was born on February 12, 1946, to Fabio Giovanni Guidotti and Cesarina Guidotti (née Borelli) in Lucca, Italy. In 1958 he and his family immigrated to the United States and settled in California.
Daniel was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend. He was known for his sense of humor, hard work, and dedication to his family.
Throughout his life, Daniel achieved many accomplishments in the scientific community. He put himself through college at the University of California, Berkeley, and continued to earn his PhD in physics at the University of Chicago in 1976. From there he completed several postdoctoral degrees at Brown University in Providence, RI. Throughout his many years as a physicist, he created patents, contributed to many publications and earned numerous awards.
He raised his family in Yorktown Heights, NY while working at IBM. In 2002 Daniel relocated to Atlanta, GA where he joined the Georgia Institute of Technology, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering as a Senior Research Scientist. During his many years there he collaborated with professors and other scientists all over the world to advance the field of quantum physics. He had the opportunity to mentor countless PhD students, which brought him much joy. From 2009- 2014 he was provided the opportunity to become a visiting professor at the Institute of Microelectronics in Beijing, China. This was a lifelong dream of his and he cherished his time there.
Anyone who knew Daniel recognized the level of ingenuity he had. He was a keen inventor and problem solver. He enjoyed building and fixing things at home. He found joy in teaching himself how to build decks, tree houses, and fix car engines. He loved nature and enjoyed vegetable gardening and going for walks. He was a history buff and was fond of cooking.
Daniel will be deeply missed by his daughter Tarquia Guidotti Antinarella (Nick Antinarella), son Paul Joseph Guidotti, two grandsons and family in Italy. Colleagues and friends will also miss his caring spirit.
