A lifelong Hoosier, David Masten was born Nov. 9, 1965, in Valparaiso, Indiana, and passed away on March 8, 2024, in Terre Haute. He spent much of his youth in Cloverdale and graduated from Greencastle High School in 1984. David was a newspaper carrier, volunteered at the Putnam County Hospital, was a consumer at Cummins Behavioral Health, enjoyed button-making, and was affectionately known around Greencastle as the “Can Man,” collecting cans all over town to turn in for spending money. He was also a beloved member of Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church.
A long-time “Trekkie,” David sought a deeper understanding of extraterrestrial languages and time travel. He envisioned exiting this earth via spaceship, and, thanks to Celestis, this is going to happen!
It’s your 60th year on this earth, and just like you foretold
You’ll be taken up by a spaceship
I thought it was another of your many delusions
From a lifetime of schizophrenia
But it is not
This is real, my dear brother
Your reward for having struggled here on earth
Now a shooting star for a time up in the heavens
Enjoy your travels
You deserve this!
I miss you.
Your sister, Kathryn
