Sachindranarayan Bhaduri was born on Jan 3, 1924, in what is now East Bengal, in the Raj Shahi district. He grew up with several brothers and was an outstanding student from a young age. He graduated from Jadavpur University with a B.S. and M.S. and ultimately received a Fulbright scholarship to study in the United States in his chosen field of Mechanical Engineering, finishing his PhD at Colorado State University.
Dad married Bina Bhattacharya in 1951, and they had a long, happy marriage and were married until Mommy’s death in 2016. Mommy was Dad's support, and he attributed all successes to her, and it was true. Mommy made our little family. Dad came to the United States in 1954 and had such a great love for the country. He was a patriot. Dad worked on propulsion, thermodynamics, publishing data, and teaching. Dad had a profound interest in space, the Cosmos, Universe, and planetary motion. He would answer puzzling questions such as why don’t the planets just fall into each other? Even when we were adults. His science background was used to develop groundbreaking science in harsh earth environments, and he did environmental work and solar energy work before it was even mainstream.
Dad was a Renaissance man, well-read, spiritual, and a seeker, and no one was quite like him. He knew several languages, was a Sanskrit scholar, and loved his wife and two daughters with all his being. We will miss him surely.
Dad had two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a patriot, scholar, thinker, and, above all, a humanist. He leaves behind a legacy of thinking, integrity, teaching, kindness, and care that he instilled in his children. We will love him to the stars and back, and we know he will be flying close to his captain, his creator.
