Shirley Starr Cruikshank was born to Richard & Marie Starr in Glendale, California. She loved telling the story of turning 21, graduating from UCLA and marrying fellow Bruin, Edwin Cruikshank, in the same week.
After earning a MS from California State University Los Angeles (CSULA), she devoted her career to the education of young people, as teacher and counselor at Mt. Gleason Middle School and magnate counselor at Narbonne High School, retiring in 2002 from the Los Angeles Unified School District after 39 1/2 years. She traveled worldwide to well over 100 countries -- the North Pole, Antarctica, Africa, Tibet, and India's Taj Mahal were her favorites.
Shirley passed away much too young, but peacefully at home in Dana Point, California with her family at her side. She is missed by her husband of 46 years, three children, Cindi, David & Brian, and two grandchildren. She would certainly approve this final trip. Always the consummate traveler, this one will be truly and literally, "out of this world!"
